A client had one entry on her profile when she came to me. She had been with a large global multinational for 17 years! Once we broke it up in 6 roles, you saw an amazing professional journey. From front desk receptionist at a local office to EMEA Real Estate Portfolio Manager. She came to me at a time she was ready to move on. We transformed her LinkedIn profile to show her career, her leadership style and her personality. She found a new role in a different multinational in no time.
JOB TITLES ARE THE SUMMARY OF YOUR PROFILE
Break ups are even more important if you are self-employed! Add your main services as separate entries on your profile. They stand out like a sore thumb IN A GOOD WAY for three reasons:
- LinkedIn doesn’t offer formatting for your profile. By default, your job-titles are bold and stand out. Make them read like a summary of your services.
- People have little patience and tend to skim read, your job titles need to tell them all they need to know.
- Over 60% of LinkedIn members use the mobile app. In the app, the descriptions are only visible when tapped. Job titles is all people see.
BETTER VISIBILITY OF MEDIA ON YOUR LINKEDIN PROFILE
By breaking up your different job roles in one company, or the services you offer media stands out more. You can add 2 or more items to each entry making your profile more visual. If you upload media and it looks crap… it’s not you, it’s LinkedIn. Delete and try something else to make your profile look good.

Thank you for this article Petra.
I have a weird case related to this topic.
I had severe health issue that took me years to overcome and during this time I worked on many marketing projects while learning specific marketing software.
The problem now is if I add all the projects under work experience I would not hide them but I do not know if t hi is is correct since I did not work neither for client nor for profit.
So I have practical experience but no clients. How can I list this projects in Experience section? For e.g. I built a WordPress site , so can I give myself a title “Web developer” when I only made one site for myself not for client and moved to another project ? I Another problem is that when I split all projects for the years I have been sick I will have 1-2 projects a year which may look suspicious to HRs but for a sick person is normal when you don’t feel well not be productive during such times….
Apologies Toni for only seeing your comment now! I’d be transparent. In this case, as the projects were different, so not a stack of websites. I’d not call yourself a “web developer” also, as I believe using WordPress is not considered a developer. That aside though. I’d create a job entry for the time you had health issues and write a description that due to health issues you were not in paid employment but used the limited energy you had to develop the following skills through self-study and hands-on projects…
To my mind, it is not good, that you can not format your profile. I am sure that people would like to have it, wouldn’t they?
Although it would be nice if LinkedIn offered us formatting, I also like the consistency. Not made up my mind about it.
